Researchers’ Day on Computer Science and its Connections with
Biology
The “Young Researchers’ Day on Computer Science and its
Connections with Biology” will take place on Wednesday,
October 14, 2026, in the Choquet-Bruhat
Amphitheatre at IHP, Paris.
Organized as part of the thematic year “ADN dans tous ses
états”, this event aims to bring together young researchers
in computer science around questions, methods and objects that may
engage in dialogue with biology.
This call is addressed to a broad computer science audience. It is
not restricted to bioinformatics or to work directly rooted in
computational biology. On the contrary, we wish to highlight the
diversity of computer science approaches that can help shed light on,
formalize, model, analyze or question phenomena, data or structures
related to living systems.
The day will feature two invited talks:
- Yann Ponty, on the combinatorics of RNA
structures;
- Amélie Gheerbrant, on graph databases and
ontologies, with illustrations on biological data.
Expected contributions
We invite PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to submit a
proposal to present their research work.
Contributions may be based on an accepted or submitted paper, whether
theoretical, methodological, experimental or applied. The goal is to
foster exchanges between different computer science communities and to
showcase the variety of possible connections between computer science
and biology.
Submission guidelines
Each submission should include a title, an abstract of the
contribution, the name, affiliation and status of the proposed speaker,
as well as a link to the corresponding manuscript deposited on an open
archive, such as HAL, arXiv or any other publicly accessible
repository.
Submissions must be sent by September 7 via EasyChair.
Selection
The selection of contributions will aim to represent a diversity of
topics, methods and research communities in computer science and
biology. Priority will be given to building a balanced programme,
enabling a broad audience to discover recent work and encouraging
cross-disciplinary discussions.
Call for Problems
In parallel with the call for contributions, we are also launching a
call for problems.
We invite anyone with an interesting, well-scoped and self-contained
algorithmic problem to submit it so that it can be brought to the
attention of the community. These problems may arise from biological
questions, modelling situations, data structuring or data analysis, or
more generally from contexts where a computer science formulation could
open up new directions.
Each proposal should clearly present the problem, its context, the
available data where relevant, as well as the open questions or
identified challenges. The selected problems will be shared with the
participants of the day and may be disseminated more broadly as part of
the thematic year “ADN
dans tous ses états”.
